American rapper Dolla shot dead in Los Angeles shopping mall

American rapper Dolla has been killed outside a shopping mall in Los Angeles. The 21-year-old, real name Roderick Anthony Burton ll, is reported to have been involved in an altercation while waiting outside the Beverley Centre near west Hollywood that resulted in him being fatallay shot. A 23-year-old man, named by the LA Times as Aubrey Berry, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after attempting to board a plane at Los Angeles International Airport after the incident yesterday.

Despite beginning his career at the tender age of 12 by MCing at parties around Atlanta, Dolla was still considered to be an emerging hip-hop artist. After modelling for P Diddy's clothing line, Sean John, he was signed to singer Akon's label Konvict Muzik 2007. Dolla is best known for the singles Who the Fuck is That? and Make a Toast. He was in Los Angeles to work on his debut album A Dolla and a Dream.

"He had a promising career," his publicist Sue Vannasing told Rolling Stone magazine yesterday. "He was being hyped as the next Tupac. He chose music to get off the streets".

Los Angeles police charged Berry with murder and have set bail at $1m. It is believed they are seeking another suspect who was seen fleeing the seen yesterday.
