OV Watch: Time to Conceive?

Have you heard about the OV-Watch?You might have seen their commercials or heard of it- its an FDA cleared fertility monitor in the form of a watch that you wear while you sleep. The watch detects the Chloride-ion levels in your skin and will tell you the four best fertile days BEFORE you ovulate to get pregnant. According to the company, "The Chloride-ion surge is an earlier predictor of a woman’s fertility than LH or basal body temp. The CI surge comes 6 days before ovulation, where the LH surge comes just hours (12 -24 depending on what reference- either LH or basal body temp- you are looking at) before ovulation and the temperature surge comes after ovulation"

The OV-Watch is very easy to use. On either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd day of your cycle, you pop a new sensor in the back of the watch, set it with the length of your cycle and put it on for at least 6 hours a night. No peeing on a sticks every morning (when you either think you are ovulating or your fertility monitor tells you to test). After midnight it considered a new day. The hardest thing about this product was putting the watch on! I keyed in my average cycle and tried to wear it from 10pm to 7 am. It beeped every half hour for a couple of hours, the first night I set it. Since we have been trying to get pregnant for number #2 for over 6 months (and I am 36) I used the OV Watch in conjunction with Clomid and my ClearBlue Easy monitor. The company that makes the OV Watch says that it will work with Clomid or similar drugs. While at press time, I am not sure if it "worked yet", but I am delighted with the OV-Watch. It accurately predicted my four best fertile days before ovulation – which the ClearBlue Easy does not (it just tells you when you are low, high or peak fertility).

Expecting former "Batchelorette" Trista Sutter, due in August, credits this product with helping her conceive. She said, "Thankfully because of this watch, I knew when I was going to ovulate." To read more about Trista’s experience with the OV-Watch, click here.

The company also says, "The reason that OV-Watch can work when the other things haven’t is because OV-Watch will allow them to time intercourse differently. The other "things" on the market can’t give the woman the entire fertility window like OV-Watch does and certainly can not give them up to 4 days before ovulation, like OV-Watch can." Because I tried the OV-Watch, I can totally agree with them!! I loved that the device told me the four best fertile days of my cycle.

July 2007 Update: I knew it worked, but wanted to make sure everything was okay with the pregnancy first!
